NY Jets QB Sam Darnold feels well enough to play


Sam Darnold continues to progress from missing action due to mononucleosis. Whether he suits up this week remains to be seen.

The New York Jets quarterback took part in practice today and took first-team representatives, but was listed as restricted. He wasn’t cleared for contact since Wednesday. Darnold missed the team’s Week 3 loss to the New England Patriots due to mono. The Jets had a bye recently.

” I feel like I suffice to play. My energy’s great,” Darnold stated Thursday.

Darnold being cleared to face the Philadelphia Eagles depends on how tests of his spleen, which can be enlarged due to mono, return Friday.

“It’s excellent, I think. I don’t actually understand,” Darnold stated Thursday when asked about his spleen.

The signal-caller stated he’s wearing customized pads to help cover his stomach. The second-year quarterback included his objective is to make sure “I do not die.” Smart man.

“Football is an insane game, but I want to make sure I’m safe,” he stated.

Earlier Thursday, coach Adam Gase stated Darnold looked great in practice Wednesday and didn’t appear to have any ill impacts from the disease, which is positive news, particularly considering weight reduction can be one impeding consider the formula.

“You would see a tiredness if there was one. We didn’t see that yesterday,” Gase said.

In order for Darnold to play this week, he must get clinically cleared, and the coaching personnel and front office need to be comfortable putting the quarterback in damage’s way.

Not dying would be excellent start.
