Elton John used Bob Dylan a wardrobe transformation after mistaking the country rock icon for his gardener.
In his brand-new memoir, Me, the British rocker remembers Dylan appearing at a wild 1980s garden celebration Elton was tossing for his celebrity pals in Los Angeles and assisting himself to a drink.
” I invitedeveryone I understood,” Elton writes. “By mid-evening, I was flying, definitely out of my mind, when a scruffy-looking man I didn’t recognize wandered into the lit-up garden.
” Who the hell was he? Need to be one of the staff, a gardener. I loudly demanded to understand what the garden enthusiast was doing assisting himself to a drink. There was a minute’s surprised silence, broken by my PA (individual assistant) saying, ‘Elton, that’s not the garden enthusiast. It’s Bob Dylan!’
” Coked out of my brain and eager to make amends, I rushed over, got him and started steering him towards your home, (stating), ‘Bob! Bob! We can’t have you in those dreadful clothes, darling. Come upstairs and I’ll fit you out with some of mine simultaneously. Begin, dear!'”.
Elton remembers Dylan was far from entertained: “His expression suggested he was striving to consider something he wished to do less than get dressed up like Elton John, and drawing a blank.”.
In spite of the mix-up, Elton and Bob ended up being unlikely pals and Dylan returned to the pop star’s pad for a dinner party and a game of charades with Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.
” He could not get the hang of the ‘The number of syllables?’ thing at all,” Elton explains. “He could not do ‘sounds like’ either, concerned consider it. One of the very best lyricists worldwide, the best male of letters in the history of rock music, and he could not appear to tell you whether a word had one syllable or two syllables or what it rhymed with!
” He was so hopeless, I began throwing oranges at him. Or so I was informed the next morning by a good friend.”.
Elton’s brand-new memoir will be launched on 15 October.
