The main two creators of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have reportedly decided to leave Netflix. They have worked on the project for two years and are leaving it due to a few reasons as per records.
DiMartino has reportedly opened up about their decision and has confirmed it on his website saying they left the show on mid-June, this year.
In light of the same context DiMartino wrote “When Bryan and I signed on to the project in 2018, we were hired as executive producers and showrunners.”
According to the reports, DiMartino and Bryan have come up with this decision because of the lack of support from Netflix. In one of his statements Dimartino said “Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar has the potential to be good.” He further added “But what I can be certain about is that whatever version ends up on-screen, it will not be what Bryan and I had envisioned or intended to make.”

Well, friends… there you have it. Big sigh. 💔⬇️💔 I’m sure many of you will understandably want to know more and will ask me questions in the comments, here and on subsequent posts and live-streams and in-person encounters and everywhere else ad infinitum. I wish I could explain things in greater detail, but the above statement is really all I can say about the matter so I won’t be answering any of those. I encourage you to head over to my partner Michael DiMartino’s account to get his take on our departure too: @mike_dante_d Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of the Avatar: The Last Airbender fans, and I’m sorry our involvement in the live-action project did not work out. Time to get on with my life. Onward and upward. 💙 Love, Bryan #avatarthelastairbender #cocreators #michaeldimatino #bryankonietzko #bryke #atla #liveactionseries #netflix
This tone makes it quite evident that the main reason why they chose to exit is because they were not allowed to reflect their creative techniques on screen. However, DiMartino has assured his fans that he will remain to be a part of this universe while Bryan took to social media and supported the statement given by DiMartino.
A Netflix spokesperson said while talking about the matter “We have complete respect and admiration for Michael and Bryan and the story that they created in the Avatar animated series.” This however goes on to indicate that the decision is a mutual one and both the parties have agreed to it in a cordial manner.
