The gaming giant has actually hired a new member to the group for its Xbox studio with Lauren Garcia – who worked as character shading technical director on ‘The Last of Us: Part II’ – joining as senior shader innovations developer.
She wrote on Twitter: “So happy to announce that this week I joined at The Initiative. This is an incredible team working on something truly special.
“It was so hard to left behind my friends at NaughtyDog. But I need to say thank you to @Xbox @XboxP3 to allow me be part of Xbox family! <3 (sic)”
The Initiative became part of the Microsoft family, with an announcement at E3 2018 as part of the company’s verification of brand-new studios and acquisitions.
Garcia follows fellow Naughty Dog alumnus Jordan Denton and Robert Ryan – ‘The Last of Us: Part II’ sound designer and designer respectively – on the team for the Xbox studio’s first video game.
The title is currently unannounced, but Microsoft’s video gaming chief Phil Spencer hinted it could be a reboot.
Back in January, he teased: “Great update today with @DGallagher_LA @mattbooty and the team @TheInitiative.
“Incredibly talented studio challenging themselves to do new things things (and old things 🙂 ) in new ways. (sic)”
