The rumor is that Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland will be appearing in Spiderman 3.
Fans were thrilled to learn that their favorite Spidermen will be sharing screens. But Sony Pictures issued a statement.
Revealing to ET Canada, Sony said: “Those rumoured castings are not confirmed.”
While, the studio did not deny the castings, there is a distinct possibility that the trio might reprise their roles.
However, if the company does confirm the news, it wouldn’t surprise anyone.
The last movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home confirmed the existence of ‘Multiverse.’ It introduced the plot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It is set to be explored further in the upcoming Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness.
In the credits sequence of the movie it was revealed that J.K Simmons will be returning as J. Jonah Jameson. He acted in the original Spider-Man trilogy starring, Tobey Maguire. The movies were directed Sam Raimi.
The reports come after Jamie Foxx will return as Electro. Foxx appeared in the 2014 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which starred Andrew Garfield.
Doctor Strange aka Benedict Cumberbatch will also appear in Spiderman 3. His role will set the plot for his upcoming Doctor Strange movie.
The news of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire came from FandomWire on Monday. They claimed that the third movie will create the ‘first live-action Spider-Verse.’
And that the former Spidermen will help Tom Holland in the ‘final act.’ Which will include all the big baddies.
The other cast members who will be reprising their roles are: Zendaya as MJ, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson.
The movie is set to release in December 17, 2021.
