Carl Pei has left OnePlus. The news comes as a shock to everyone and leaves them with just one question, WHY? Here’s why: Carl Pei left OnePlus to focus on other ventures.
Carl Pei or Pei Yu is a Swedish entrepreneur, born in China.
He was the co-founder of OnePlus, along with Pete Lau. They started it in 2013 and Pei was the former director of OnePlus Global.
The duo has previously worked together at Oppo and has worked hard together to grow OnePlus into one of the most recognized smartphone brands. Pei was heading the recently launched Nord brand, which focused mainly on the affordable handsets.
Carl Pei was the public face of the company for a long time. With a combination of bold promises, real talk and marketing campaigns Carl Pei turned smartphone enthusiasts into OnePlus fans community.
According to Pei, he is looking for some time to relax and catch up with the members of his family but he did not address when asked why he is doing this now.
If we go by the rumours, he had a fall out with the fellow co-founder and CEO Pete Lau and that Pei left to start his new move. His memo although did not sound like the words of a person who left, looking for a new job.
OnePlus is not prepared to answer the questions like where he went and why. One of the reasons might be that OnePlus did not want the attention to be shifted from the new OnePlus 8T.
Although it is still unclear to why Pei left, a convincing mind like his who was able to convert a small smartphone brand into one of the most trusted and used smartphone brands is not likely to sit idle for long.
